Welcome!
In my Fort Wayne studio, I offer students two different language studies. Through piano I teach both keyboard skills and music appreciation and through French I teach the five main branches of the French language and culture. My aim is to provide an environment of positive, caring, and enthusiastic enjoyment of learning and expression.
Piano Study
Piano lessons improve academic skills Music and math are highly intertwined. By understanding beat, rhythm, and scales, children are learning how to divide, create fractions, and recognize patterns. It seems that music wires a child's brain to help him/her better understand other areas of math, says Lynn Kleiner of Redondo Beach, CA. Piano lessons boosts self esteem Lessons offer a forum where children can learn to accept and give constructive criticism. Turning negative feedback into positive change helps build self-confidence. Group lessons, in particular, may help children understand that nobody, including themselves or their peers, is perfect, and that everyone has room for improvement. Ultimately, you and your child choice to take piano lessons should depend on a number of factors. Here’s a list of questions to consider before bringing home a new piano player:
My goal of teaching various keyboard skills, music appreciation, general music knowledge, and different styles of music is achieved through private and group lessons. Each private lesson is structured around the individual needs and learning styles of each student and group lessons are structured to bring the experience of sharing music with one another. Lesson options There are many factors that go into the structure of one's piano study. Lessons can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes long. The decision on what is best for the individual student will be discussed at the interview and introductory lesson. Getting Started If you are interested in pursuing piano lessons please contact Mrs. Biggs via email or by calling (630)802-4075. We start by scheduling an interview with the student and parent/guardian where studio policies are explained and we have an introduction to the piano. At this time the student is given piano books (which the parent/guardian will purchase) and we will begin our journey into music studies! If you have any questions about structure, books, or prices, please contact Mrs. Biggs. Getting Started Games and other resources are an excellent way to grow and expand our understanding of music and how we experience its possibilities. French Study
French lessons improve academic skills The study of language encompasses the study of nearly every other discipline. By engaging in speaking, reading, listening, and writing students become more sensitive to the intricacies of their native language as well as they draw lines to core courses such as English, mathematics, science, and history. Language study not only helps create connections to other disciplines but it helps form connections to other cultures around the world thus encouraging him/her to become a global citizen. A few reasons to learn French In today's society French can be easily seen as less useful than others. However, after English and German, French is the 3rd most used language globally. With over 220 million French speakers world-wide learning this language opens the doors for travel, business, and politics. Aside from French also being a very fun language to learn it opens the door to learning more languages. Language learning has shown to be very beneficial to growth and development. For example, it boosts memory, attention, multi-tasking abilities, understanding of one's native language, increases the ability to learn another language, and can boost self-esteem and confidence. Is my child ready French studies offer a forum where children can learn to accept and give constructive criticism. Turning negative feedback into positive change helps build self-confidence. Ultimately, you and your child choice to begin learning French should depend on a number of factors although it is my personal belief that there is almost no wrong time to begin learning another language. Here’s a list of questions to consider:
Methods for teaching and/or tutoring My French studio offers two different options for French practice and learning. Those options are tutoring assistance or private teaching lessons. To be a part of the tutoring side of this studio would mean that my goal is to assist your student in the practice of the French language as they are a part of another language learning body (i.e. school program). To be a part of the private teaching side of the studio would mean that my goal is to create a curriculum for your student where I am their primary language teacher. It is my goal to teach the five main elements of the French language to your student. Those elements are 1) speaking 2) listening 3) reading 4) writing and 5 culture. Teaching these elements is achieved through private lessons. Each private lesson is structured around the individual needs, learning styles, and goals of each student. In this studio we will use text books and various forms of multimedia tools. Lesson options Both tutoring and teaching lessons can be scheduled for 30, 45, or 60 minutes. The decision on what is best for the individual student will be discussed at the interview and introductory lesson.
